Read MoreThe IRS has provided special tips to taxpayers for the advance Child Tax Credit and filing the 2021 tax return. The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the White House have also announced the relaunch of the renewed website – ChildTaxCredit.gov. Taxpayers who received advance Child Tax Credit payments should file a 2021 tax return to get the remainder of the credit for which they are eligible. Further, the IRS has sent letters ( “2021 Total Advance Child Tax Credit (AdvCTC) Payments”) to payment recipients to help ensure tax returns are accurate. The Service has also urged taxpayers to check their IRS Online Account beginning January 31.
The Service has requested that the taxpayers should:
Carefully read advance CTC letter 6419;
Be careful and file an accurate return with direct deposit to see their refunds within 21 days after the filing is accepted by the IRS;
Get their total payment amount;
Rely on the amount of payments reflected in their Online Account on IRS.gov; and
Letters sent to taxpayers who filed as Married Filing Joint are being sent to each spouse separately with only their half of the payments received.
